Day 1: Antananarivo to Toliara (Tulear) & Anakao – Madagascar

Your epic Southern Madagascar Tour begins with a flight from Antananarivo to Toliara City (formerly Tulear). Note, flights are costed separately. You will be met on arrival at the airport and transferred to the seafront to board a boat to the pretty fishing village of Anakao to the south.

Settle into your comfortable lodge and spend the rest of the day at your leisure enjoying the serene ocean location. Anakao is known for its beautiful white-sand beaches, clear turquoise waters, and vibrant culture of the Vezo fisher folk. The calm waters are ideal for swimming, snorkelling, and diving the colourful coral reefs teeming with marine life. The town also serves as a gateway to the pristine islands of Nosy Ve and Nosy Satrana, popular for birdwatching and their beautiful beaches.

Between July and September, you may be fortunate to witness majestic Humpback whales who visit here during their annual migration. A motorised pirogue boat trip to view these creatures up close may be booked. Other optional excursions are available, such as game fishing or snorkelling (for your own expense, to be booked in advance).

Day 2: Lake Tsimanampetsotsa National Park – Madagascar

After breakfast, your Madagascar Safari heads south to spend the day in Tsimanampetsotsa National Park, with the saline Lake Tsimanampetsotsa at its centre. This shallow, alkaline lake supports a large population of flamingos and other waterbirds. Surrounding the lake is a fascinating blend of spiny forests, limestone formations, caves and baobab trees which thrive in this harsh environment. The park is home to a variety of endemic species, including rare reptiles, birds, and the iconic ring-tailed lemur of Madagascar.

Day 3: Nosy Ve – Madagascar

Day 3 of your Southern Madagascar Tour will be spent visiting the small, idyllic island of Nosy Ve. The island is sacred to the Vezo people and is also a haven for birdwatchers, as it is home to the rare and endangered red-tailed tropicbird. These birds nest on the sandy shores and attract ornithologists from all around the world. Soak up the sun on the beautiful white sand beaches and enjoy excellent snorkelling in the crystal clear waters. This island visit is sure to be a highlight of your Madagascar trip.

Day 4: Anakao to Toliara (Tulear) & Antananarivo – Madagascar

Enjoy a final breakfast at your hotel before hopping on a boat for your transfer back to Toliara City (formerly Tulear).
