For over 400 years, more than 12 million men and women were enslaved, forcibly removed from their lands in Africa, and sold in the Americas and Europe. This historical migratory flow continues to impact the African continent, shaping its socio-economic and political development. The resulting labor shortage had lasting effects on economic activities at the time and has been attributed to the poverty experienced in Africa over the years.

Slavery, considered one of the most brutal practices in history, was promoted by European powers that exploited Africa in search of slaves, hindering the continent’s economic progress. For centuries, various routes were used to transport millions of slaves, including across the Sahara, through the Red Sea, via ports in the Indian Ocean, and across the Atlantic Ocean. The exact numbers are debated, but it is estimated that millions of slaves were exported through each of these routes.

Furthermore, the impact of slavery on African cultures and economies persists to this day, even after the abolition of this inhumane practice. To explore and share the history, literature, and culture of the African American community, the “Black stories” channel was created. The channel aims to uncover the hidden stories and untold truths of the Black experience, from the harrowing legacy of the transatlantic slave trade to the transformative power of Black literature and narrative. Additionally, the channel celebrates the resilience of the African diaspora and the ongoing struggle of African Americans for justice and equality, while also valuing the beauty and creativity of Black art, literature, and culture.

The channel provides a platform for African American voices and perspectives to be heard and appreciated.
