More than ever before Africans are choosing to disregard their culture and traditions for western Ideals. One may ask why this is so and how did Africans come to adopt English as one of their main languages considering this culture was exported to Africa during the colonial times.
Is it possible that the impact of Neocolonialism is real and the effects are continuing to erode Africa’s Language, traditions, culture and heritage? The Iconic Wangari Maathai equated one’s loss of culture to self enslavement. It might seem slightly harsh and extreme but she went on to explain that if you choose to forget who you are, your people and where you originally came from then you are as good as lost.
